Cars of the 1800s

The first known car (horseless carriage) was built in the early 1800s (1828 since record began). The cars of the 1800s were mostly powered by electric motor, and the first known Electric model car was produced by a Hungarian inventor, Ányos Jedlik in 1828.

He created a tiny model car powered by his new motor. This was followed by other renowned inventors like , Vermont blacksmith Thomas Davenport (In 1834) , Professor Sibrandus Stratingh and his assistant Christopher Becker(In 1835). Then in 1837, The first known electric car was built by a chemist, Robert Davidson of Aberdeen. It was powered by galvanic cells (batteries). Interest in motor vehicles increased greatly in the late 1890s and early 1900s.
